Partner

Jeffrey “Jeff” Bowman is a partner and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Jeff is based in the firm’s Salt Lake City office, where he is a member of the firm’s Transactions Practice Group and Chair of the Venture Capital Committee.

Jeff primarily focuses his practice on representing emerging growth companies, entrepreneurs, and investors in the areas of corporate, securities, and M&A. His counsel spans the entire corporate life-cycle, from formation to exit, including pre-incorporation business advice, general corporate counseling, financings, technology transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and other day-to-day business matters relevant to rapidly growing companies. Jeff also advises clients on matters of intellectual property, employment, and equity compensation.

Jeff works with companies of all sizes, ranging from single founders to companies valued in excess of $1 billion in a broad range of industries, including SaaS, fintech, biotechnology, life sciences, digital health, Web 3.0, marketing and sales tech, EdTech, e-commerce, consumer products, and financial and other professional services. Jeff also represents venture capital firms, private equity firms, and angel investors investing in companies throughout the nation.

Before Foley, Jeff was a partner at a business and transactional law firm in their Salt Lake City office. Prior to law school, Jeff worked as an intern at the International Trade Centre WTO/UNCTAD in Geneva, Switzerland, in its Office of Arab States, Europe, and CIS countries, where he assisted with the execution of export development projects in Central Asian countries.

  • Represented 401GO, a fully-owned 401(k)-management platform, in its $33 million Series B funding round led by Centana Growth Partners.
  • Represented HeroDevs, a provider of security and compliance solutions for deprecated open-source software, in securing a $125 million strategic growth investment from PSG, a growth equity firm focused on software and technology-enabled services companies.
  • Represented Cervin Ventures as the lead investor in the $10 million seed funding round for Callidus Legal AI.
  • Represented NexTalk, an industry leader in communications solutions for the Deaf, hard of hearing, and non-English speaking communities, in its acquisition by a private equity firm.
  • Represented Canopy, a firmwide operating system for accounting firms, in its $70 million Series C funding round.
  • Represented SchoolAI, a leading artificial intelligence platform for teaching and learning, in its $25 million Series A funding led by global venture capital firm Insight Partners.
  • Represented cQuant.io, an industry leader in analytic solutions for energy and commodity companies, in its acquisition by Zema Global, a leading provider of data management and analytics solutions for companies in the energy, commodities, and financial sectors.
  • Represented ReferPro.com, the referral automation software designed to help businesses generate, track, and reward referrals, in its $2.7 million seed round funding.
  • Represented Canopy in its oversubscribed $35 million funding round led by Ten Coves Capital and Ankona Capital, with participation from Pelion Venture Partners, Tenaya Capital, and NewView Capital. The $35 million investment will further advance Canopy’s vision of leveraging AI to exponentially enhance firms’ efficiency.
  • Represented 401GO in its $12 million Series A funding round led by Next Frontier Capital with additional contributions from Rally Ventures and support from existing investors Impression Ventures and Stout Street Capital.
