Dr. Randy Pummill represents inventors, both large and small, helping them to secure and protect their valuable intellectual property. Rand has been on both sides of patent disputes, having represented patentees and accused infringers, allowing him to bring a valuable perspective to patent disputes.

As a former senior chemical engineer, Rand has the technical background necessary to assist clients seeking to protect complex inventions in the mechanical, industrial, or chemical spaces. Rand proficiently speaks the technical language of scientist and engineers and effectively capture technical ideas and concepts in patent applications. Rand has authored dozens of patent applications while carefully considering for each application how claim language and the written disclosure will play into the individual client’s intellectual property portfolio and overall market strategy.

Rand is a member of Foley’s Energy Sector Team, where his technical background allows him to quickly understand clients’ needs. Rand has assisted clients in a wide variety of technical spaces, including medical devices, commercial chemicals, commodity chemicals, oil & gas, refining, and polymers. He enjoys keeping up with intellectual property litigation and has published several articles on a wide range of cases–from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board all the way up to the Supreme Court.
