Jeffrey (Jeff) Simon primarily counsels biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies on all aspects of obtaining, defending, and enforcing intellectual property rights.
His practice focuses on drafting patent applications, prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, IP strategy and portfolio management, and freedom-to-operate analysis as well as litigation support and infringement analysis. Jeff’s experience covers a wide range of technologies, including vaccine compositions, antibodies, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, exosomes, peptides, bioinformatics, gene therapies, and medical devices.
Prior to joining Foley, Jeff worked as a patent attorney for a multinational corporation, collaborating with division and business group managers to ensure that IP strategy and manufacturing aligned with financial objectives and expense targets. He prepared and prosecuted domestic and international patent applications for a wide variety of health care-based technology platforms. He also managed division dockets for foreign and domestic patent and intellectual property matters, prepared appeal briefs before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), conducted freedom-to-operate evaluations, and provided legal support for litigation and pre-litigation evaluations.
During law school, Jeff served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Richard F. Suhrheinrich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
