Providing Innovative Solutions for Your Energy Needs

Energy Sector Hero Image.

The manner in which the world powers itself is changing dramatically. The shift in the global energy mix from choices of power sources, new digital technologies, and changing consumer and investor expectations have combined to make the production, provision, and procurement of energy more complex and competitive. Building on our rich history in serving as trusted advisors to energy and resource companies, Foley’s cross-disciplinary Energy team of more than 160 attorneys regularly represents clients in the traditional and renewable power, oil & gas, and energy transition/climate adaptation industries.

The success of Foley’s Energy team is rooted in experience, but our real value lies with anticipating what the energy landscape will look like 5, 10, or 20 years from now. Our Energy attorneys provide solutions that help prepare our clients for the future, whether that’s advising traditional energy companies on how to transition to cleaner methods of extraction and production, renewable clients on how to navigate regulatory and tax law changes, or an organization with an energy project that requires on-time and on budget completion.

Renewables

Renewables will continue to see exponential growth over the next decade. We have a long history of successfully managing energy projects and financings, particularly involving renewable fuel sources such as solar, onshore and offshore wind, energy storage (battery, fuel cells and other technologies), and renewable biofuels/RNG. Our services to the renewable energy market include permitting, community relations, land rights, equipment procurement, construction, finance and project finance, power purchase arrangements, interconnection and project acquisitions, M&A, securities offerings, compliance issues, litigation, intellectual property, joint ventures, and tax credit experience.

Oil & Gas

Fossil fuels are still powering the world, however, the landscape is rapidly changing and this disruption leads to significant opportunities for our clients. We help our clients navigate issues related to the ever changing political landscape, new innovative technologies, price volatility, and consolidation and divestitures. Foley successfully addresses the litigation, intellectual property, and transactional needs of our clients in the upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services industries, including the majors, independents, public companies, private equity sponsors, and lenders.

Energy Transition/Climate Adaptation

The national and global approach to energy is shifting. There is increased regulatory focus on using renewable energy and transitioning our infrastructure. Foley’s Energy Transition team helps clients stay ahead of the curve on topics such as hydrogen, electrified mobility infrastructure, carbon capture, and ESG. We have the opportunity to help our clients evaluate their energy strategies, respond to regulatory and consumer demands, and transition for continued growth and success.
