Kise Comments in Wall Street Journal on High Stakes Debt Collection Services

07 November 2017 Wall Street Journal
Partner Chris Kise is quoted in a Wall Street Journal article, “Jet-Set Debt Collectors Join a Lucrative Game: Hunting the Superrich,” about a costly, international cat-and-mouse chase to collect on a $28.8 million judgment against one of his clients.

Kise told the WSJ that his client, Florida oilman Harry Sargeant III, didn’t want to pay the judgment because he saw the verdict as just one battle in a multi-front legal war with a former business partner in a lucrative fuel transportation company supplying the military following the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. Kise also said that Sargeant had tried, unsuccessfully, to settle the dispute and was convinced he could win on his counterclaims against his ex-partner in the U.S. and abroad.
