Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that it secured a victory for INDECT USA Corp., a global provider of parking guidance systems, in a technology patent dispute with Park Assist LLC.
A California federal jury found that INDECT did not infringe on Park Assist’s patent covering camera-based parking guidance systems that monitor and detect parking space occupancy. In addition, jurors concluded that Park Assist engaged in unfair competition under the Lanham Act by accusing INDECT and its customers of infringing its patent.
“It is a great relief to be vindicated from this patent dispute, and I am glad the jury saw it as plainly and obviously as we did, too,” said Stephen Evans, general manager of INDECT.
INDECT provides parking guidance systems ranging from single-space indicators and camera-based sensors to surface lot detection and custom signage. INDECT systems combine parking space sensors with data management technology to offer drivers a safer, more convenient parking experience while helping parking facility owners operate their parking assets more efficiently and profitably.
The Foley team representing INDECT included Partners J. Michael Thomas and Paul Storm, along with a team consisting of Stephanie McPhail, Michelle Moran, Randy Pummill, and Mikle Jew, Paralegal Tanya Durham, and Assistant Brittnie Hutchinson.
