Partner Cliff Risman is quoted in a Law360 article, “Hospitality Cases And Trends To Watch For The Rest Of 2018,” about significant cases and trends hospitality lawyers are following.
Risman said the hotel industry’s practice of disclosing mandatory resort fees separately from room rates, which the FTC and many state attorneys general are investigating, raises the question whether consumers are getting accurate information to make an informed decision. “There will be more about this before it goes away,” he said.
Risman also pointed to the passage of a sweeping privacy bill in California in June as a harbinger of more stringent measures – and possible lawsuits – to come. “My hunch is that at some point there will be an enforcement action, whether it’s the European Union trying to make an example now of a Marriott or a Hyatt or a Hilton, or an action later in California,” he said.
