Lacktman, Wein Discuss New Reimbursement Rules for Remote Patient Monitoring

Partner Nate Lacktman and Of Counsel Emily Wein were quoted in an mHealth Intelligence article, “CMS Finalizes New Reimbursement Rules for Remote Patient Monitoring,” about new guidelines that give hospitals and health systems more opportunities to use remote patient monitoring.

Lacktman and Wein said in a blog post that the new guidelines advance the ability to improve the patient care experience and allow more cost-effective business models. They also discussed several questions raised during the comment period that were not addressed by CMS, including requests to better define “physiologic parameters,” “digitally transmitted data,” “medical device” and “interactive communication.” “While CMS did not answer these questions, it understands the frustration commenters express with the current code descriptors and plans to consider these questions in future rulemaking,” they wrote.
