Foley Serves as Underwriters’ Counsel of Houston’s $734M General Obligation Bond Sale

Foley & Lardner LLP served as counsel to Samuel A. Ramirez & Co. Inc. in its capacity as lead underwriter for the City of Houston’s recent $734 million general obligation bond sale. The underwriting syndicate also included Hilltop Securities, Wells Fargo Securities, Baird, Blaylock Van, and Estrada Hinojosa.
The bond sale included proceeds to settle a long-standing contract dispute between Houston and its firefighters and proceeds to refund and defease outstanding GO bonds and commercial paper.

Foley Secures Ninth Circuit Victory for Del Monte in Labeling Dispute
Foley & Lardner LLP successfully represented Del Monte Foods in securing a victory before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which affirmed the dismissal of a class action lawsuit accusing Del Monte of false advertising through deceptive labeling practices. The lawsuit, filed in California by an Oregon consumer, alleged that Del Monte falsely marketed its fruit cups as “natural” despite containing synthetic preservatives.
