Foley Again Earns Top Marks for LGBTQ Workplace Equality

Foley & Lardner LLP has once again achieved a 100 percent ranking on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index, the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer workplace equality. Foley has been named to the list since 2013.

Foley’s top rating was based on detailed criteria falling under five broad categories:

  • Nondiscrimination policies
  • Employment benefits
  • Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion
  • Public commitment to LGBTQ equality
  • Responsible citizenship

The 2021 CEI rated over 1,000 businesses across the country, including Fortune magazine’s 500 largest publicly traded businesses, American Lawyer’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms and hundreds of publicly and privately held mid- to large-sized businesses. Foley’s satisfaction of all CEI criteria resulted in a 100 percent ranking and designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality. Foley has long been recognized by clients and the legal industry for its strong commitment to client service excellence and innovation. The firm is frequently honored for its commitment to providing a workplace where all attorneys and staff have the opportunity to grow and thrive.

“The events of 2020 reaffirm Foley’s dedication to fostering a culture of inclusion,” said Foley Chief Diversity & Inclusion Partner Eileen Ridley and co-lead of the firm’s LGBTQA Affinity Group. “As with everyone else, our efforts have had to address new and unexpected challenges as we deal with the new reality brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, some as basic as no longer seeing each other in person each day. But it’s been clear through this most difficult of years that our culture, combined with our broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences, continues to strengthen our firm and benefit our clients.”

“This recognition from the HRC reflects the continued commitment to our firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan,” said Jack Lord, a partner and co-lead of the firm’s LGBTQA Affinity Group. “Foley remained a best place to work for LGBTQ persons because the firm hasn’t wavered on recruiting and retaining LGBTQ individuals, supporting LGBTQ individuals in receiving the best work and advancement opportunities available and providing pro bono efforts for LGBTQ individuals and groups. That’s something to celebrate given the challenges of the past year – but it’s also not surprising when you consider Foley’s long-held focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.”
