Roger Strode Discusses Appeal of Cardiology to Private Equity Groups

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Roger Strode is quoted in the Levin Associates article, “Spotlight on Cardiology and the Mounting Interest from Private Equity,” discussing cardiology’s status as a hot commodity among private equity groups looking to increase investment in health care.

As procedures that were once restricted to hospitals are now being performed in outpatient settings, Strode said there will be “more and more procedures pushed into these outpatient settings. That’s also going to benefit the investors and the physicians who own those facilities.”

“Many of these cardiologists have already been down the hospital route and they’re not crazy about working for somebody else. It’s strength in numbers,” Strode said, explaining the ongoing consolidation trend in cardiology groups which poses a challenge to private equity groups aiming to move into the industry.

“They think, ‘If I can stave off having to sell my business to a private investor and I can have a physician-run and physician-led organization, that’s what I’d rather do,’” he added.
