Nicholas Ellis and Vanessa Miller Assess Transportation Policy Trends
Foley & Lardner LLP partners Nicholas Ellis and Vanessa Miller highlighted transportation policy trends in the Law360 article, “Transportation Regulation, Legislation To Watch In 2026.”
Ellis and Miller detailed challenges the automotive industry is facing, including around trade and regulatory uncertainty. Ellis pointed to the upcoming review and renegotiation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement as one example. “Given the administration’s approach to trade, we can expect that it’s likely they’re going to push for pretty substantial changes there,” he said.
“We’re seeing some longer-term strategic decisions being made by auto companies as far as where they can regionalize certain production,” Miller, chair of Foley’s national Automotive Team, said of how regulatory uncertainty is impacting automakers. “It’s not as easy as flipping a switch to do that or even having the right facility up because the equipment has to be customized and the tooling is very specific to each program in each location.”
