Overview Peter J. O'Meara Associate pomeara foley.com Download vCard Peter J. O’Meara is an associate and business litigation lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice. Mr. O’Meara’s practice has been concentrated in litigating antitrust matters, including antitrust counterclaims to intellectual property enforcement litigation and defense of antitrust class action litigation. He also has broad experience litigating complex insurance-reinsurance matters, environmental litigation and government investigations. He also has experience assisting public utilities with regulatory approvals. Mr. O’Meara has practiced in a variety of forums including state and federal courts, arbitrations, and regulatory bodies. Community Engagement Mr. O’Meara has a deep commitment to pro bono service, with a long track-record of going the extra mile for those in need. Among other projects, Mr. O’Meara has represented asylum-seekers through referrals from the National Immigrant Justice Center, clients seeking to claim or restore benefits from the Social Security Administration, and has argued a direct appeal of a criminal conviction before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals as appointed counsel. Prior to joining Foley, Mr. O’Meara was an immigration attorney with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, where he helped low-income clients apply for various forms of immigration relief including family-based benefits, asylum, and benefits afforded to victims of domestic abuse under the Violence Against Women Act. He also represented clients in removal proceedings. Mr. O’Meara is Secretary of the Junior Board of the Chicago Jesuit Academy, a full-scholarship institution that offers children with educational and economic needs access to a Catholic, college preparatory middle school education in the Jesuit tradition. Education Mr. O’Meara earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2010), where he was a note and comment editor for the Marquette Law Review. He was also membership chair of the American Constitution Society and a member of the Pro Bono Society. While in law school he served as an intern in the chambers of Justice Anette K. Ziegler of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Mr. O’Meara earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism from the University of Minnesota (B.A., 2006). As an undergraduate he studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Admissions and Professional Memberships Mr. O’Meara is a member of the Illinois Bar and the Wisconsin Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
