Scott Ellis Appointed a Commissioner of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Scott Ellis has been appointed a Commissioner of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.

The Commission addresses issues of great importance to lawyers, the ABA, and the public. It serves as a catalyst promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession and the ABA by facilitating the entry, participation, and retention of diverse lawyers by further developing substantive programs and services in which diverse lawyers, law firms, and law students will actively participate.

Ellis was selected to the Commission for his longstanding commitment to expanding opportunities in the legal field. As co-chair of the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee, Ellis helps design and implement programs that support diverse law students and young attorneys to succeed in their new careers. He has received two President’s Awards from the HBA — one for his leadership as co-chair of the HBA DEI Committee and another for his service on the Implicit Bias Task Force.

Ellis is also the vice chair of Foley’s national Energy Litigation Practice, the hiring partner for the firm’s Houston office, and a member of the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance team. He handles high-stakes litigation for clients in the energy, construction, industrial gas, banking, and financial sectors. Ellis is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center where he teaches trial advocacy.
