Overview

James Campbell is a senior counsel and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. James counsels clients in intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on patents. His experience includes patent preparation and prosecution, infringement and validity analyses, product clearance studies, and litigation support. He is a member of the Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice.

James provides patent counsel in a broad range of technologies related to consumer goods and industrial manufacturing, electromechanical control systems, software algorithms, digital signal processing, and energy systems. Within these technical areas, he has supported client industries and products, including building controls and automation, automotive electronics, Internet services and applications, medical devices, consumer electronics, household products, and product packaging.

Education

James earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2012), where he earned a Dean’s Academic Achievement Award. Prior to law school, he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, graduating at the top of his class (B.S., 2009).

Admissions

James is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin. He is also a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
