With Florida being the country’s fourth most populous state, local governments and organizations are finding ways to cope with new residents. One group, Florida Hometown Democracy Inc., wants to take land use and development decisions away from the legislature and submit them to general vote. Terry Delahunty, a partner in Foley’s Orlando office, authored the article, “Hometown Democracy Won’t Fix FL,” which was published in the July 16 issue of the Florida Real Estate Journal. Delahunty points out that this will adversely affect Florida’s economy, be cumbersome and expensive and will increase the cost of living.
