Daljit S. Doogal is a partner and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Daljit focuses his practice in corporate, private equity, venture capital and restructuring law matters. He is a member of the firm's Transactions, Private Equity & Venture Capital and International Practices, and its Automotive and Manufacturing Industry Teams. Daljit is a former managing partner of Foley’s Detroit office and the former chair of the firm's national Business Law Department.
Daljit’s practice includes representation of automotive and manufacturing companies, venture capital/private equity funds, financial institutions, and other publicly and privately held businesses in the areas of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; private offerings of equity securities; fund formation/representation, financing matters and corporate reorganizations, including the restructuring of financially distressed companies, both inside and outside of bankruptcy. Daljit serves as the outside general counsel for numerous companies and frequently advises boards of directors and special committees in regard to fiduciary duty issues in various contexts.
Daljit frequently speaks on corporate, restructuring and general merger and acquisition matters and often speaks with regard to cross-border legal and business issues with respect to doing business in India.
Daljit’s professional affiliations include memberships in the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Oakland County Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, and American Bar Association.
Affiliations and Community Involvement
Daljit is a charter member, and a co-founder of the Detroit Chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, a nonprofit network of entrepreneurs and professionals dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurs. He is also a member of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce and the small business development committee of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he serves on the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Dean’s Advisory Board.
Daljit is a cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School and received his bachelor's degree, with high distinction, in economics from the University of Michigan.
