In addition, he has represented clients in local federal trial and appellate courts and other federal courts nationwide.
Previously, Mr. Dorfman was a trial attorney and special counsel with the SEC’s Division of Enforcement in Washington, D.C. (1978-81). He handled a wide variety of matters at the SEC, including investigations and enforcement actions concerning tender offers, insider trading, trading market practices, and financial accounting issues.
Mr. Dorfman has been Peer Review Rated as AV® Preeminent™, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review rating system. He presently serves on the SEC Enforcement Subcommittee of the Securities Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Litigation and the Subcommittee on Civil Litigation and SEC Enforcement Matters of the ABA Section of Business Law. Mr. Dorfman also serves as a member of the editorial advisory board of Securities Law360. He co-chaired an ABA Task Force on SEC Rules Relating to Investigations and their report was published at 42 Bus. Law. 789 (1987). He is an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches a course in SEC enforcement and litigation.
Mr. Dorfman co-authored the article “Top Ten SEC Enforcement Developments of 2012,” which appeared in the Bloomberg BNA Securities Regulation & Law Report (2013).
A graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D., 1976, cum laude), Mr. Dorfman received his A.B. degree from Yale University (1973, magna cum laude). He is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars and has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the District of Columbia, Second, Third, and Fourth Circuits.
