Foley Privacy Practice Ranks in Top Three on Computerworld "Best Privacy Advisers" List
Group Recognized for Practical Advice, Thorough Work and Accessible Staff.
Foley announced today that it ranked in the top three on Computerworld’s list of “Best Privacy Advisers in 2010.” The firm tied for first in the “Best Privacy Advisers” industry rankings in Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices.
Computerworld also recognized Andrew B. Serwin, Foley partner and founding chair of the firm’s Privacy, Security & Information Management Practice, as one of the top “Best Individual Privacy Advisers.” He is ranked second out of only 50 individuals on the 2010 list, which marks his second time in the top 15 of the Computerworld list of “Best Individual Privacy Advisers.” Serwin is well known for his work in the privacy, security and information management industry and is an internationally renowned author. One of his books is currently fifteenth on the list of best selling new titles for publisher Thomson-West.
“We feel privileged that Computerworld has again recognized our Privacy group’s hard work and are proud to have gone from eleventh on the list to third in just two years,” said Ralf Boer, chairman and CEO of Foley. “Under Andy’s leadership, we have assembled an impressive team of experienced attorneys and professionals with a strong commitment to serving clients’ diverse information management needs. We are pleased to be ranked as one of the top privacy firms and congratulate Andy on his individual recognition.”
Rankings in the Computerworld “Best Privacy Advisers” survey are based on responses from corporate privacy leaders in North America and Europe that identify the firms most successful at helping organizations navigate the complexities of managing customer and employee information. When asked why they chose one firm over another, respondents cited the following factors: broad and deep expertise; practical advice; timely and thorough work and accessible staff.
“Best Individual Privacy Advisers” were similarly evaluated based on global knowledge of data privacy and protection. The survey was conducted by Overbrook Research, an independent public-opinion consulting firm, on behalf of Computerworld.
“There is an increased need for strategic privacy advisement as companies continue to house more and more of their most valuable information electronically,” said Serwin. “At the same time, data is becoming increasingly regulated, which makes our job of mitigating data privacy and reputation risk much more crucial to companies’ success. It is truly an honor to be recognized for our ability to provide specialized services in the growing areas of privacy and information security.”
The Privacy, Security & Information Management practice at Foley draws on a multidisciplinary team to counsel clients on the emerging issues in privacy, security and information management in addition to helping to determine whether their data management policies are in compliance with the growing body of data security and privacy legislation. The team works closely with clients to create policies that define how information should be managed, preserved and deleted to protect clients from liability, and, when necessary, litigates intricate privacy and security lawsuits brought by private plaintiffs and in class-action.
