Ferrante Discusses New Florida Telehealth Options

Senior Counsel Thomas Ferrante was quoted in the South Florida Sun Sentinel article, “If You Want Cheaper Health Care, You May Have to Visit Your Doctor on Your Phone,” about new telemedicine options in Florida, including Humana’s Doctor on Demand program. The cost to patients for doctors visits under the new telemedicine program is less expensive than in person ones, but Florida’s new telehealth laws leave it to doctors and insurers to negotiate reimbursement rates.

That difference may keep telehealth from growing at the explosive rate it has in other states because it reduces incentives for physicians to invest in the necessary technology and training, Ferrante said.
