Judith Waltz Comments on Incoming CMS Consolidated Billing Form for PECOS

Foley & Lardner LLP partner Judith Waltz is quoted in the article, “‘Mega’ Enrollment Form on PECOS 2.0 Should Reduce Burden; Providers Will Have One Profile,” in the Report on Medicare Compliance, published by the Health Care Compliance Association.

Waltz, who is co-chair of Foley’s Health Care Practice Group, discussed the Center for Medicare Services’ (CMS) expected consolidated billing form for the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS), which will involve the creation of a national profile. “If it rolls out as they claim and works as they say it’s going to, you will be able to do one mega enrollment form,” explained Waltz. “It looks like a significant step toward making enrollment much more tolerable in terms of the administrative burden.”

“The way it’s described,” Waltz continued, “you can do one mega 855 enrollment form and it will associate to all your locations, even those across contractors. You can have an entity in Wisconsin and one in Nevada and they will be sorted out to the right contractors, and you will have a nice complete record.” Waltz also noted that if a provider moves its main office or changes CEOs, it will update one form just one form, not dozens or hundreds.

Waltz said this will be benefit providers and suppliers because it reduces their administrative burden and it will also be helpful to enforcement and oversight agencies because they will have a better picture of activities across Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) jurisdictions, instead of reviewing siloed information from one MAC at a time.
