Senior Counsel Monica Chmielewski was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article, “Easy on Those Apps: Mobile Medical Apps Gain Support, But May Lack Clinical Evidence,” on November 28, 2015. The article discussed the increasing use of medical apps and also detailed enforcement actions by the Federal Trade Commission for deceptive claims. Chmielewski was quoted saying, “I think we will be seeing an increase in scrutiny and enforcement by the FDA and the FTC.” She doubted that more innocuous apps like weight trackers would be subject to scrutiny, and said, “But when you have these mobile medical devices treading in the areas of diagnosis and treatment, for those I think we’ll see increased enforcement.”
