Foley Partner Lisa Noller authored an article on the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) 2012 Work Plan, which includes new initiatives to address shortcomings with Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC). Noting that MACs have struggled with a backlog of claims and physician enrollment glitches as well as delays in payments due to mishandled claims, Noller says that OIG’s involvement has the potential to act as an additional check and balance of payment errors but may cause more difficulties for providers.
