During this breakfast presentation, we examined the impact of objectors and NIMBY (Not in My Back Yard) groups on different types of development projects, and explored different strategies for working with these groups to achieve consensus.
All types of projects, from suburban retail to urban residential developments, are susceptible to the impacts of objectors; whether it be a single, hold-out neighbor or a well-organized, empowered community group. By better understanding these groups, when to accommodate them, and when to combat them, we can choose the most effective strategies at different stages of the development process.
