New York office associate Britton Payne delivered a guest lecture at the Fordham University School of Law on April 14, 2009, on the topic of "Copyright Remedies." Payne's lecture addressed the necessary showings for injunctive relief in copyright cases in light of the recent Supreme Court case Winter v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc., calculation of actual and statutory damages including apportionment, copyright registration requirements and strategies for addressing registration deficiencies, as well as other important issues that arise in copyright disputes once liability for infringement has been established.
