Nathaniel (Nate) Lacktman, partner in Foley & Lardner's Health Care Industry Team, will be speaking at the American Telemedicine Association 2014 Fall Forum in Palm Desert, Calif., on Sept 7-9, 2014. His presentation is titled, “Building a Chronic Care Management Program – Perspectives on State-Specific Legal Considerations.”

Telemedicine-based chronic disease management approaches can expand access to the specialized care needed to improve patient quality of life and health, particularly for home-bound patients, those living in rural communities, or even young and busy people managing chronic diseases with little time/interest to spend at brick and mortar facilities. Virtual consultations, remote monitoring, and disease management apps can enable patients with chronic health conditions to live independently and manage their symptoms without sitting in a doctor’s waiting room every week.

The presentation is designed to highlight the legal and regulatory issues associated with telemedicine-based chronic disease management, but with a particular emphasis on practical discussion and real world application of these rules. Case studies will be covered to highlight the unique challenges associated with these care models, and how providers can build a successful, compliant telemedicine-based chronic care management program.
