Foley Associate Brandi Walkowiak was quoted in an article titled “Michigan’s E-Verification law debated: Some say it would protect workers, others say it’s a legal head-ache” in the August 24, 2009 issue of Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Walkowiak discusses a proposed law that would require Michigan contractors and subcontractors who work for the state to electronically verify workers’ employment status. She notes that the law is a potential cost burden and is unclear regarding whether only new hires would need to be verified, or whether the state would have to re-verify its current employees.
