Kerry Farrar, a paralegal case lead in Foley’s San Diego office, was one of the recipients of the firm’s Lynford Lardner Community Service Awards presented in December 2022 to seven of our attorneys and business professionals.

The award’s namesake, Lynford Lardner, was actively engaged in the civic affairs of his community and recognized that strong and viable communities, predicated on volunteer civic participation, create a healthier environment in which to live and work. Lardner encouraged members of the firm to embrace partnerships with business, labor, educational, and nonprofit leaders for the betterment of the community.

And Farrar is doing just that! She has been a volunteer leader in the Mission Beach community for many years, tirelessly contributing time and expertise to several organizations, including Don’t Trash Mission Beach, the Mission Beach Town Council, and Friends of Pacific Beach Elementary. Her fundraising efforts have resulted in new playground equipment for a school, saved a teacher position, helped keep the area safe and clean, and supported several enrichment programs.

As a Lardner Award winner, Farrar received $5,000 to donate to a nonprofit organization and chose We See You San Diego, an organization with a simple mission: To serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness in order to restore dignity and identity; to see people break free from addiction, homelessness, and life in the street.

“My middle daughter and I chose this nonprofit because we are very passionate in our desire to help our local homeless population,” Farrar said. “We See You San Diego provides home-cooked meals to the homeless every Tuesday night during what they call their ‘dinner parties’, which include live music and personal shoppers to help guests in need of clothing and household items.”

At one of these recent dinner parties, Farrar and her daughter presented the Lardner Award donation to We See You San Diego, which captured their conversation in this video:

“We had such a wonderful time, and our hearts and souls were overflowing with love and kindness at the end of the evening,” Farrar said. “Knowing how many people we helped made such a huge and incredible impact on our lives.” Farrar later learned that one of the guests at the dinner party that evening chose to enroll in the organization’s rehabilitation program to begin his recovery from addiction.
