Christopher L. Griffin

Retired Partner


Christopher L. Griffin is a retired partner and business litigation lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. He conducted a broad practice in commercial litigation, focusing on trade secrets, non-compete agreements, interference with business relations, and other business torts; libel, slander and defamation; and real estate litigation. Mr. Griffin was a member of the firm’s Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Appellate Practices. He also was a member of the Sports Industry Team.

Mr. Griffin has litigated and tried complex commercial matters in all three of Florida’s United States District Courts, and in Florida Circuit Courts throughout the state. He has argued appeals in the Florida Supreme Court, the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and several of Florida’s District Courts of Appeal.


Mr. Griffin has been Peer Review Rated as AV® Preeminent™, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© since 2015 in the field of commercial litigation.


Mr. Griffin received his J.D., summa cum laude, in 1978 from Florida State University College of Law, and his B.A. in 1976, summa cum laude, from Florida State University.

Tampa partner Chris Griffin is in the second year of a three-year term as Public Member, and Appeals Coordinator, of the NCAA Division I Infractions Committee. The Committee hears and decides allegations of violation of NCAA rules brought against universities and coaches by the NCAA’s Enforcement Staff. Mr. Griffin also served nine years as Public Member (five of those years as Chair) of the Division I Infractions Appeals Committee.
Represented a national retailer in the defense of various personal injury claims brought by customers.
Represented a licensor to a condominium development in litigation involving the Interstate Land Sales Full Discosure Act.
