The US Department of Justice (DOJ), US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (HHS OIG), and other agencies increasingly rely on sophisticated data analytics to guide enforcement efforts against health care fraud, waste, and abuse. With the US DOJ having opened a record number of False Claims Act cases last year, health care companies of all types (providers, payers, drug and device makers, etc.) are well-advised to improve their own data analytics in compliance. Doing so can make the most of limited compliance budgets and help avoid government scrutiny.
