Waltz Comments on Federal Funding Bill to Relax Medicare Loan Repayment Terms
21 September 2020
Partner Judy Waltz was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article, “Federal funding bill relaxes Medicare loan repayment terms, delays DSH cuts,” about pending legislation that would relax repayment terms for COVID-19 Medicare loans.
Waltz, a former assistant regional counsel at HHS, said prompt congressional action would be the most efficient way of resolving the issue because it would probably be difficult for CMS to refund provider payments if they start recouping funds and Congress relaxes the payment terms afterward.
“If this doesn’t pass, I’m not sure what CMS’ next move would be,” she said. “They can’t just leave this indefinitely.”
