The panel was moderated by Nova Benway. Britton Payne discussed the intersection of certificates of authenticity and the law, including well-known lawsuits over the provenance of works by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, and Henri Matisse. He also discussed the difficulties inherent in applying traditional copyright analysis of authenticity and ownership matters such as joint authorship, works made for hire, fixation and originality to non-traditional and conceptual art forms.
