Status of NAFTA Re-Negotiations: An Examination of Recent Developments and Anticipated Direction of NAFTA Discussions Between the US, Mexico and Canada

Alejandro Gómez-Strozzi, a partner in Gardere’s Mexico City office, will speak on NAFTA at the US-Mexico Bar Association’s annual conference in San Diego Sept. 28.
His panel discussion will explore how national pride plays a role in negotiation tactics, the history behind the US-Mexico trade relationship, strategies to move forward and possible future scenarios should NAFTA fail to be renewed.
A participant in NAFTA negotiations on behalf of Mexican industries, Gómez is the lead trade consultant of the Mexican associations and confederations of pork, poultry and beef producers and provides advice in tariff and nontariff trade regulations and standardization. During President Vicente Fox´s administration, Gómez was the undersecretary of economy in charge of foreign investment, standards and trade remedies.
