In Celebration of AAPI Heritage Month Foley Hosts a Conversation with Jiny Kim, VP of Policy & Programs for Asian Americans Advancing Justice

This month, in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Foley welcomed Jiny Kim. Jiny Kim is Vice President, Policy and Programs at Asian Americans Advancing Justice. The AAJC is a national nonprofit founded in 1991 to advance the civil and human rights of Asian Americans and to build and promote a fair and equitable society for all. For 30 years, Advancing Justice has served as the leading Asian American voice on civil rights issues in our nation’s capital, fighting for civil rights through policy advocacy, education, and litigation. Jiny was joined by Foley associate Jessica Joseph, Co-Chair of the APMEA Affinity Group, for a wide-ranging conversation discussing the work of the AAJC. The discussion highlighted the approximately 50 ethnic groups speaking over 100 languages that comprise the AAPI community and covered the discrimination that many in the AAPI community fact, in particular the stereotypes of the model minority and perpetual foreigner, and the connection to the current rise in Anti-Asian racism and violence.
