This month, Foley hosted a virtual retreat for its attorneys of color. The programming focused on self-care for the community. After an opening welcome session led by Alexis Robertson, Jay Rothman, Jen Patton, and Eileen Ridley, the day’s programming included virtual networking as well as a workshop facilitated by award winning speaker, author, and globally recognized expert in diversity and inclusion, Ritu Bhasin. Ritu led participants in an interactive workshop that examined the internalization of bias, how it shoes up, and how it can be interrupted. The program explored a number of topics including what the internalization of racial bias is, how it impacts career performance, as well as how bias and trauma are linked. She concluded the session with tools on how to interrupt and heal from internalized racial bias and trauma. Ritu’s program, and the open virtual networking session, provided an opportunity for Foley’s attorneys of color to connect. Additionally, the retreat was well-timed as May in Mental Health Awareness month, and the programming provided mental health advice tailored to the experience of attorneys of color.
