Dudas Recognized for Outstanding Contributions by Japan Patent Office
Foley announced today that Jon W. Dudas has been recognized by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) for his outstanding contributions in the development of intellectual property (IP) systems in the United States and other parts of the world.
In issuing this award, JPO Commissioner Takashi Suzuki acknowledged Dudas’ deep insight into IP law, acute vision of the future of IP systems and dedication to promoting a high level of positive collaboration between the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the JPO during his tenure as Under Secretary of Commerce for IP and Director of the USPTO.
Additionally, Dudas is credited for his work in the promotion of IP protection worldwide and his efforts in developing the solid relationship that still exists between Japan and the United States in the IP field. He played a key role in helping to develop the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) between the JPO and USPTO, which allows applicants in both countries to obtain corresponding patents faster and more efficiently. Dudas is also responsible for helping to establish regular Heads of Office meeting with the leaders of the world’s five largest IP offices: Japan, China, Europe, Korea and the United States.
Dudas, a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Foley, is a member of the firm’s IP Litigation Practice. He works closely with the firm’s Public Affairs Practice and multinational patent enforcement teams, leveraging his experience as a litigator and tenure with the United States government to continue fostering innovation in the IP arena and driving international patent harmonization efforts.
