Gills Discusses Supreme Court's Decision to Overturn Appeals Court on Fees in Patent Cases
29 April 2014
Partner Jeanne Gills was quoted in an article published in Reuters on April 29, 2014, titled “U.S. Top Court Overturns Appeals Court on Fees in Patent Cases.” The article discussed the U.S. Supreme Court decision to throw out appeals court rulings in ICON Health & Fitness Inc v. Octane Fitness LLC and Allcare Health Management v. Highmark Inc., which may make it easier for a patent lawsuit winner to have its legal fees paid by the losing party. Gills said the Octane decision will give district court judges more leeway in awarding attorneys’ fees in cases that arguably should not have been brought to court.
