HBJ Features Comments from Jessica Mason on Employment Litigation in the Oil and Gas Industry
The Houston Business Journal spoke with Gardere Labor and Employment Partner Jessica Glatzer Mason about the potential rise in employment litigation due to the large number of job cuts in the oil and gas industry. The publication noted that certain categories of workers are more likely to pursue employment litigation in this climate and there are patterns, particularly in the upstream energy sector, that employers should be aware of as they face possible lawsuits.
"Highly compensated upstream workers who have lost their jobs recently will be litigation bait for plaintiff lawyers in the months to come," Mrs. Mason told the publication. She added that some (workers) may simply be disgruntled and pursue a wrongful termination suit, but the majority will likely be driven by the practical concern for a sudden drop-off in income.
