The CW Features Gardere’s 24th Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Preliminary Competition
KDAF CW33 covered the 24th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory preliminary competition at J.P. Starks Math, Science and Tech Vanguard on Oct. 15. The 12 participants were asked to present original speeches addressing the question, “What would Dr. King say in his campaign speech if he were running for President this year?”
Za’Kiah Bell, a fifth-grade student at J.P. Starks, took the first place spot and will continue on in the competition to represent her school in the semifinals on Dec. 8 at the Dallas ISD Headquarters Auditorium. Fifteen fourth- and fifth-grade students from across DISD will compete in the semifinals competition, and from there, eight students will move on to the finals event to be held on Jan. 15, 2016 at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.
