Peter Vogel Comments on Gawker Media Founder’s Personal Bankruptcy Filing
E-Commerce Times spoke with Partner Peter S. Vogel, chair of the Firm’s internet, e-commerce and technology team, about Gawker Media founder Nick Denton’s personal bankruptcy protection filing.
Mr. Denton filed for protection after exhausting his appeals to block Hulk Hogan from collecting $140 million in awarded damages from a defamation suit earlier this year. Mr. Vogel told the publication that if Mr. Denton is granted his filing, Mr. Hogan may not be able to collect the full amount.
“Even if Hogan got a final judgment, he would have to get in line to collect any money owed and would have to compete with other Gawker creditors to collect,” said Mr. Vogel. “Bankruptcies can go on a long time since the objective is to find assets to pay creditors, and it takes time and energy to see if any monies are controlled by others or offshore.”
