Gardere’s 25th Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition Winner Featured in Dallas Morning News
The Dallas Morning News featured Gardere’s 25th Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition held at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. Sierra Jones, a fifth-grade student from Charles Rice Learning Center, took first place in the Dallas competition.
Eight fourth- and fifth-grade students competed at the Dallas finals event, presenting original three-to-five minute speeches answering the question, “If Dr. King were alive today, what would he say about Muhammad Ali’s contribution to society?”
“I would say fight when you are tired, fight for what you believe, fight like my friend Muhammad Ali, fight until you can't fight any more,” Ms. Jones told the crowd. “This is something I, too, learned. And if I had to take a line from him, I would say ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,’ I will be great because of a man like Muhammad Ali.”
