Partner Nathaniel Lacktman was quoted in a POLITICO Pro article, “DOJ Slow to Help Opioid Epidemic with Telemedicine Change,” covering the failure of the Drug Enforcement Agency to enact a provision under the Ryan Haight Act, which allows for a special registry for doctors to treat opioid addicts through telemedicine.
Lacktman explained, “I think the DEA recognizes this need to navigate a balance of interests, and that’s why they are being thoughtful about it.” He then added that “the agency’s failure to issue the new guidelines means the government is only stopping legitimate providers, making it actually easier to buy illegal drugs over the Internet.”
