Pugh Comments on Passage of Chicago ‘Affordable Housing’ Ordinance
October 30, 2017
Cook County Record
Partner Donna Pugh was quoted in a Cook County Record article, “City of Chicago passes zoning ordinance to ensure ‘affordable housing’ in three hot residential zones,” about the city’s attempt to require developers to set aside a greater percentage of affordable housing in certain desirable neighborhoods close to downtown.
Pugh said the pilot program is intended to replace the so-called in-lieu fees developers formerly were able to pay in place of affordable housing set-asides. She said the city wants affordable housing to be included in more new developments.
“This initiative from the city came in response to how many new units were coming on the market in these areas and to ensure affordable units were being built in these growing communities,” she said.
