Ferrante Comments on New Digital Care Platform for Chronic Disease Management

Senior Counsel Thomas (T.J.) Ferrante was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article, “A Care Platform That Engages Patients and Providers Alike,” about Wellsmith Inc.’s new digital care platform for the treatment of chronic diseases.

Ferrante said the overall concept of Wellsmith’s platform – chronic care management and remote patient monitoring – is fairly common. “What they do differently is having a slick and user-friendly experience,” he said. “It seems to be a consumer-oriented model, where patients seem to like it, and that’s a little bit different than what we’ve seen.”

The biggest limitation to such systems at this point is reimbursement, he said. But now that the Medicare fee schedule has new remote patient-monitoring codes, more companies will be willing to get into the business, “because now there’s an opportunity to monetize it in a different way,” he said.
