Lacktman Publishes Pioneering Guidance on Assessing Growing International Telemedicine Services in New White Paper
Nathaniel Lacktman, Chair of Foley & Lardner LLP’s national Telemedicine & Digital Health Industry Team, released a white paper today co-authored by Dr. Neil Nerwich, the International SOS Foundation’s Group Medical Director for Assistance, on what organizations using teleconsultation services need to take into consideration in order to set the gold standard for global teleconsultation offerings.
The paper, “Teleconsultation Services for the Mobile Workforce; Considerations & Guidelines for the Provision of Global Services in Compliance with Regulations & Best Practice Clinical Standards of Care,” endorsed by the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (ISfTeH), addresses key considerations and unique challenges that arise in the delivery of a global teleconsultation capability. This includes legal and regulatory compliance across multiple international jurisdictions and an appreciation of different cultural and clinical care standards.
“Telehealth’s global footprint continues to expand, and it is imperative that organizations using these services take the time to understand all that teleconsultation has to offer, including applicable medical licensure and best medical practice requirements,” said Lacktman. “As companies seek to offer care not only across one country, but also across nations and continents, maintaining legal compliance and ensuring that mobile employees receive the optimal standard of medical care aligned with their local healthcare infrastructure is crucial.”
The “Teleconsultation Services for the Mobile Workforce” white paper offers:
- A review of the legal requirements for teleconsultation provisions,
- Clinical best practices and details industry professionals should consider (i.e. local healthcare environment, clinical expertise of current disease threats at the patient’s location, and integration into the local healthcare system as needed),
- Global best practices to guide multi-national organizations assessing teleconsultation services, and
- Corporate and educational case studies.
