Waltz Quoted in Bloomberg About Health Care Fraud Probe Recovery in 2018
Partner Judith Waltz was quoted in the Bloomberg Law Heath Law & Business News article, “Health-Care Fraud Probes Garnered $2.3 Billion in 2018,” about the drop in money recovered from government enforcement efforts from health care fraud schemes. In 2018, the government enforcement efforts recovered $2.3 billion, a slight drop from 2017’s $2.6 billion in recoveries. It’s the second straight year that fraud recoveries have dropped.
Waltz told Bloomberg that the drop is likely not significant and previous recoveries may have been skewed upward by large individual cases. “The drop might even indicate that the government is doing a better job of avoiding paying for improper claims altogether instead of paying and then chasing after the money,” she said.
