Neuberger Comments on Ways Employers Can Help Employees With Coronavirus
Of Counsel Mark Neuberger was quoted in a SHRM article, “Health, Wellness and Leave Benefits Help Employees with Coronavirus,” about what employers should tell employees who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
Neuberger said employers can require employees who exhibit coronavirus symptoms to stay home until they are symptom-free. But they may want to modify their attendance policies beforehand to ensure they are not encouraging employees to hide the risk they may pose to others. “If employers force someone to stay home for two weeks without pay or make them use precious PTO, they may push people to hide where they have been or what symptoms they are experiencing, which will defeat planning to ensure that management is taking all reasonable steps to prevent the illness from spreading through the workplace,” he said.
