Partner Lynn Gandhi was quoted in a Tax Notes Today State article, “Increased State Interest in Transfer Pricing Anticipated,” about an expected increase in state transfer pricing programs following North Carolina’s successful initiative and the restart of the Multistate Tax Commission’s transfer pricing committee.
Gandhi, who appeared at a March 18 panel during the American Bar Association/Institute for Professionals in Taxation virtual seminar on state income tax, said the reboot of the MTC’s State Intercompany Transactions Advisory Service committee has increased interest in transfer pricing issues. She also said North Carolina’s voluntary transfer pricing resolution initiative, which has been deemed very successful, and Indiana’s advance pricing agreement program have also increased states’ interest in the issue.
Interest in transfer pricing arrangements by states has also increased because of heightened awareness as the federal government has changed its tax regime on global profits and from OECD’s base erosion and profit-shifting project, she added.
