The Rutherford Institute Highlights Lockerby’s Role in Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski
A press release issued by The Rutherford Institute, a civil liberties organization that provides free legal services to people whose constitutional and human rights have been threatened or violated, highlighted a Supreme Court decision in Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski. In an 8 – 1 decision in favor of college student Chike Uzuegbunam, the Supreme Court ruled that Uzuegbunam can sue officials for violating his free speech rights. Uzuegbunam was cited by campus police for “disorderly conduct” for speaking about his Christian faith and distributing religious literature on campus. The Supreme Court found that Uzuegbunam suffered a violation of his constitutional rights when officials enforced their speech policies against him.
Partner Michael J. Lockerby assisted The Rutherford Institute in advancing the arguments in Uzuegbunam.
