Foley Boston Internship Program Featured in ‘Partners with a Purpose’ Series
Foley & Lardner LLP is featured in the Boston Business Journal article, “First semester law student mentored by local law firm,” as part of the publication’s Partners with a Purpose series that highlights companies and nonprofits working together in unique and interesting ways.
Shawn’Tay Burton began an internship at Foley’s Boston office during the summer but decided to stay through the fall as she prepared for and began her first semester of law school. While interning at Foley, Burton sits in on meetings, workshops, and trainings, receives mentorship from attorneys at the firm, shadows some of the attorneys to better understand legal subject matter, and works on diversity, equity, and inclusion projects.
Foley’s Boston Office Managing Partner Christopher McKenna said, “Shawn’Tay is very bright, personable, and had previous internships in the legal industry. She presented herself as someone who is eager to learn.”
Burton is also an alumna of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an organization that Foley began a national partnership with in 2021 to support its diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, to which she said provided opportunities that prepared her to work at Foley.
McKenna said this level of work with an intern has been “very successful” and he hopes to create and continue similar experiences with other students.
